Oh oh Panic?

I'm very worried that I've really hurt my camper's 1.6TD engine (1991 T25). The battery indicator light went red, the revometer stopped responding, foolishly I kept driving...

Then the engine temperature light started flashing red and I must have kept driving for just over 10 minutes..

Yeah I know! I'm such a chump, I feel terrible :(

That's when the vapour started spewing out the back. I pulled over, and worked out that the fan/alternator belt had broken.. such a simple thing to fix had I just stopped at the first warning!!

So now I'm very worried about her.

The vapour was coming from a leak at the connection point where the coolant hose connects to the engine. So that is being replaced now but how much other damage could this stupidity/recklessness have caused?

Thanks for any info

not 100% sure but alot of engines the alternator belt drives the water pump too so you may have cooked the engine !!!

How bad is a cooked engine?

It was still running when I stopped, and it had no trouble starting

Cooked as in warped cylinder head, maybe even knackered engine due to the exessive heat....but lets not get ahead of ourselves...fit a new belt, top up the cooling system and see how she goes.

It does run the coolant pump

Thats what would do take her for a run and see how she does wether she overheats cuts out, check coolant after the run for gunk or maybe drop the oil to look for a water contamination. Call it an honoury service for being so mean
