I have a T25 with a 1.9 water-cooled petrol engine. It overheated and had to be rescued, and the garage found oil in the coolant and a coolant leak on the left hand side and told me it was the head gasket. I was about to sell it anyway, so it's very unfortunate timing, especially as the engine had given me 11 trouble free-years....

I'm debating whether to have it fixed and then sell it, or sell it as is, making it clear it needs attention.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of getting it fixed, and any opinions about whether the cost would be recovered in the sale price.

In all other respects it's in very good condition and looks great inside and out.

figure on min £300 garage job, but you'd expect to get it all back and more as running taxed mot'd and serviced drive away is the way to be

If the rest of the van is in very good condition then i would think it's in your interests to get the engine sorted, but corroded head studs can be a nightmare to get out and some people find it easier just to replace the engine.

Though buying a second hand engine can cause big headaches unless you know the history!

Update your location on your profile and people may even recommend somewhere to take it.

If it's any more than a head gasket it's cheaper to put an engine in.

Take it from me (and believe what Simon said) repairing this fault on these engines is a big job and fraught with disasters waiting to happen.

Also it will be almost impossible to find a garage that will fix it and even if you do the cost at the end of the day might be really stupid !

I can only recommend a re-con engine from Elite at about £900 but it may well be worth it if you are selling the van, as advertising it with a guaranteed re-con engine is a BIG plus point.
