The original plywood floor was secured by screws (loads of 'em!) to the floor pan and bolts near the door step. Has anyone replaced their floor without resorting to turning the floor pan into a damned sieve?

Second Q, has anyone put a varnished wooden floor down, no carpet or tiles (some nice rugs though) and how well has it endured the rigours of camping?

I put a waterproof laminate floor on top of the boards.
not cheap, but I've had a wet winter and summer.. still looks good

real wood should be better than anything else( don't use softwood) as long as you use the right varnish, diamond glaze is prob best, you might be better with laminated marine ply, and just use a non slip mat or insulation under it, no need to pepper the floor with holes

I've insulated the floor and have fixing points at discreet points. As the for the floor material do I dare declare this? Ok, saw this on Grand Designs (so don't laugh....ok your laughing!) where they used compressed fibre board for the floors due to its pattern and texture. It was sanded then varnished and I absolutely loved it so going to give it a try!

i saw that, it does look good, they did something similar with concrete, prob be a little heavy for a van though

Jus dont use Laminate flooring, i used the expensive stuff and altho it lasts forever it is slippery as a slippery thing esp when wet for the rear seat passengers!!

I put down a single piece of 10mm ply as a based, this is secured using a combination the bolt down points that are dotted around the floor and the bolted down cupboards.

The floor is only fastened on 3 corners, the corner nearest the (LHD) passenger seat is not secure.
On top of this I have laid laminate flooring which is secured at the edges with a bit of No More Nails type adhesive.

It doesn't move and has been so for over a year now.

Me thinks Autohomes had shares in the screw manufacturing industry, either that or they decided that if you entered your camper in the RAC rally the floor would stay put when you rolled the van! The only way I could get the old floor out was to set a portable circular saw to just within a tad of the floor thickness, cut it into strips and yank them like hell because the screws were impossible to remove! Mind you, got loads of firewood now......
