81 clutch - cambelt change

Hi, Im due for a new clutch in my 81 Aircooled and just wanted to know would it be worth while changing the cambelt at the same time as i have no record of it being changed.

It may have a Fan belt but no metion of a Cam belt in the Haynes.......

still learning about these engines ! they dont have cambelts then ?? Anything else i can check for whilst engine is out?

Have a good butchers at the rear crank oil seal (flywheel will have to come off to check) if it is showing any signs of leaking change it, but remember to re-torque the flywheel up properly or it will come off.

Yup..a cam belt is a component that links the crankshaft to the camshaft on top of an engine. The VW flat 4 design is OHV (overhead valve) and so the valves are operated by push rods, no belt in sight. Just a heads up.
