power steering fluid

can anyone tell me what if I need to get a specific type of power steering fluid for my 1.6 turbo diesel please? have had a search both on here and Brickyard, but can't find any details.

Simon, of course you are right but when I worked at a VAG garage back in the mid/late 80's we never used ATF in any of the VW/Audi power steering pumps but Volkswagen/Audi's own green power steering fluid. ATF is generic and OK but dedicated power steering fluid is better. Seen your comment....I see how that could work.
Hey.... found some in the shed....
PS: and it says on the tin 'not to be used in automatic transmissions' so it must to be different from red ATF.

If the cap is green on the reservoir, then use hydraulic fluid, if it is red then use ATF.
T3's are ATF generally.

Yep T3's use ATF Dexron 2 or Dexron 3

just checked - cap is red, so ATF it is. Now getting the cap off is going to be another matter! seems like everything on my van has been tightened to absolute max, surely not necessary on everything?!!
