Gearbox trouble??

Hi all have recently fitted a 1y to my van but ever since I put the engine in the gears have been very stiff to engage more 1,3,and reverse than 2 and 4. Have been reading through past threads and I may not have put the spigot bearing in far enough could this cause my problems? or it has been suggested that it may be the linkages but the gear change was not that bad prior to the engine change it was stiff but nothing compared to how it is now!!
Thanks in advance
Richie

more than likely it's selector ball/socket mating issue , did you remove the selector rod from the gearbox when doing the engine, if not you can bend the rear rod and strain the connections when the gearbox is tilted down to get engine out/in. Always remove rear onion and linkage before removing engine to avoid damage and then clean and lube and boot on reassembly.

Sounds like that is a high possibility that is what has happened. Thank you for your response the manual I used didnt say that I needed to do the things you suggest  and although I am a mechanic I am an aircraft mech not a car mech!! It is absolutely persisting it down here so will have to wait and see what the weather is like tomorrow so I can assess what damage I have or have not done. Can anyone suggest what I may have bust if anything so I can price up what I need to buy :(

should just need taking down cleaning lubing and putting back together again with a bit of care, but chance to check see how much wear in the onion bush, checkthe boot for cup and ball, condition of cup and ball etc..
