Ok i'm new so bear with me here...
I have read through the forums and heard of people putting 2.5L Subaru Legacy engines into a bus, but has anyone put one of the Legacy 2.5L twin turbo 197bhp ones from a 1996 onwards car into one as i'm looking at sticking it in a 1988 T25 and just want some advice.
Thanks

I think the gearbox may become a limiting factor. They tend to destroy themselves when fed with too many torques and horsepowers.
PS. My n/a is 165bhp. Are you sure the twin turbo is only 197, I though they were more like 300 ? The n/a 3.0 six-banger is 240bhp.
PPS. Try asking that on VWKD.

Hi
If you're putting in the twin turbo it will be a 2l as standard (ej20). If I remember correctly the engines in the 96+ imports were 289bhp which is the max amount of horses allowed on japanese roads legally. A remap will put the engine to 320bhp (ish) IMHO if you're thinking of putting this engine with a standard gearbox, you best be very light on the gas or the ej20 will tear the box to bits. I've got an 03 outback at the mo with a far more useable 154bhp from the 2.5l (ej25) N/A engine.
Best of luck with the project

Have a word with Aidan regarding the gear box. I think the twin turbo is about 280bhp (happy days) worth every penny.

Thanks for all the useful hints and tips, think it was a typo with the 197bhp but thanks again. One last question

will the standard gearbox be ok with the standard 2.5 subaru 157 engine as am thinking this may be a easier less stressful install

Don't stick fat tyres and a racing clutch on it, see what the magnet tells you when you oil change it and don't be suprised if it strips fourth gear eventually but basically yes it's ok to do this provided you drive sympathetically, the scooby doesn't spool down as quickly as the wbx so you need a bit more care with gear shifts esp when cold first to second.
When rebuilding consider the oiling plates and stronger top gear(s) options
