Gear box question

Don't laugh. I currently have a manual 4 speed box on my 87 1.9DG petrol engined bus. If it went kurput is it possible to fit auto box. Pros and cons please

i've done auto-manual to
a mini and that was a ballache TBH,
on a rear engined motor its gotta
be a real biggy to do the other way
around, the shopping beforehand will
take a while.
