Not starting when hot

I have installed a 1.9 AAz engine in my camper and the garage who I bought it off fitted a new timing belt.
However I have a problem that I dont seem to be able to resolve.
The engine starts fine on the glow plugs first time however when its up to temp and i shut off the engine wont restart is as if its over compressed thats the only thing as how i can describe it.
I wait 1/2 hr and wait for it to cool and it starts absolutely fine.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix it?
Thanks Stuart

By over compressed, do you mean the engine will not turn over against the high compression? Or is sluggish due to high compression?
My 1Y starts easier when cold but does try to kick back against the starter motor causing things to jump knock and bang a bit back there.
When warm the glow plug light does not come on so I have to wind the starter motor for a good few turns before it will eventually spring into life.
I tend to leave it ticking over whenever possible so I don't have to wind it over and wear the starter out.
I have checked the cam belt timing once and it's out but a little bit (5mm on the circumference of the flywheel notch to pointer)
Always intend to correct it but never have.

Its Sluggish turning over due to high compression sometimes I can get it to start again but it flattens the battery like hell, i know its not the battery condition as i have tried it with a new battery and numerous other batteries so it something to do with either the pump timing being out although i havent touched that or the timing belt being a touch out or maybe something else, I am after advice or alternative suggestions, if i had the diagram i could check it out but as i havent its a bit hit and miss.

Sounds like you need a new starter motor.

Not familiar with AAZ hooked up to T25 transmission but assuming its using stock starter motor, how about the bush into which starter motor fits? That can cause this prob if bush is knackered - often worse when engine is hot. If you do fit new starter - replace the bush.

Diesel starter motors are supported as standard and dont relly on that bearing as its built in.
The glow plug relay only cuts in when the engine is cold -no idea why.

Glow plugs work off a temperature sender, so the duraction they are lit for depends on how hot the engine is.
TBH it sounds like the timing is on the pi$$, and if a cambelt has been changed probably a good pointer.
Have you tried to start it hot with the cold start lever pulled out?
Is it a late van? with the thermo valve on top of the fuel filter? does it get air bubbles in the fuel line when the engine is running?
Have you primed the fuel filter properly or did you do it the lazy way of just changing it and cranking it over till it filled itself up?
