Got to agree with Peps,

Look on German sites, I remeber seeing a crewcab with one installed and his whole load bed was on hydrolics to reveal a mid engined installation, very hard core porn, I have to say. Hmmmph, got to nip to karzy.

its alot of work for a dissapointing engine, the 2.8 30 valve is a million times better.

Dickspanner, you mention a german doka with a mid mounted motor, where do you source the parts, tranaxle? I am thinking along these lines, was thinking rover v8 with a renault transaxle, but if all the parts can be sourced from one vehicle, sounds like the way to go

CC,

The first thing I would recommend if finding someone who has done the conversion already and have a chat with them.

I spoke to someone who had done the cosworth conversion quite extensively and did lots of reseach before I started. I think the renault box is a good idea, but I do not know enough to say yes or no, but I am sure there are others on here who will. Basically you can get any engine to fit any box by using specialist supppliers of parts. I used KEP for my stuff.

Have a look on U tube and german sites for the beginning of your research. Sorry I can give you no more pointers apart from that at present. Have fun with you choice and prepare to put a lot of time and effort into any conversion and have fun with it all.

Thank for the reply dick, wise words, just kicking a few ideas around at the moment, long term project when funds allow!, have been told audi do a transaxle, anyone know if there was, or is, an audi v8 connected to there own transaxle, the idea of a one marque donor would seem apealing, plus the gearbox would be strong enough for the job.
Have enjoyed your build thread dick, proof that if you want something bad enuogh, it is acheivable!

CC,

Like I have said all along to anybody on here, if you have the time and money anything is possible with these things. If I had the time and money I would like to do a really mad conversion like a quattro powered 4wd machine. Now that would be a good thing, but the type of bank balance you would need for that conversion would have to be very big as each componant would have to be strengthened.

The cosworth powered crewcab was a bit of a challenge but I got there in the end and the power is fantastic. I have not even put full power to the thing and it really shifts, bot bad for a loaf of bread really. I should imagine with a AT gearbox you could light the tyres up in every gear without trying.

Good luck with what ever you choose to do, but remember the more radical you go the more money you have to spend and the more harder it will be to get work repaired or worked on.
