steering broke!

my steering broke today thank god i was parking! i think its the connection to the relay gear flexible coupling. that make sense to anyone??
the rubber bit has broke in bits.


anyone know where i can get a replacement please??

Common problem. Part should be readily available, eg. GSF.

just a rubber thing with four holes? £5!!! thats wats connecting the steering?? holy crap!!! :!:

Don't forget that the steering coumn on a T25 is designed to collapse in the event of a serious collision to protect you but all rubber perishes eventually. I don't expect VW expected these vehicles to go on as long as they have. Still, a cheap and easy fix.

Aye, but all part of lifes rich tapestry and keeps you on your toes. As far as I know they're not prone to breakage that easily except if old - like anything else. May well be the only time it ever gets replaced again - put it that way.

is it just a case of undoing bolts then replacing the rubber bit? or is there anytinhg to watch out for?????

They do perish and slowly develop cracks over time, MOT test should pick this up in time for replacement before something bad happens. Originally there were a couple of rivets, which may need the heads grinding off, otherwise they're an easy job, just 4 M8 screws. Use Nylock nuts.

i fixed this myself the other day! very easy job i think it should be recommended that everyone checks theres often! it scarey to think such a fragile bit is all that connects the steering!!! :!: :shock:
