Five piece Front Spoiler

I have just acquired a 5 peice front spoiler. Standard VW sort from a Bluestar. The five bits arrived with some bolts and some self tappers. I understand that the bolts probably secured the main front pieces to some van mounted fittings (rivbolts ?) that my 1987 van does not have, and the self tappers probably secured the side ''wings' directly to the van.

Main question then is.. how to secure the spoiler without the rivbolts, or similar. Or do I need to ge the proper fittings installed ? If I can use an alternative, what are folks using ? Sikaflex, Tigerseal, more big self tappers, bolts and washers etc..

All advice gratefully recieved

BTW. there doesn't appear to be a WiKi aricle on this, that I could find with a search term of 'front spoiler' or 'chin spoiler' anyhow. Maybe I should summarise responses and create something ?

boomshaka.

You need to use rivNUTS (aka nutserts) which are effectively rivets with an M6 thread up the middle. If you can wait till the Techy Weekend and speak nicely to me I'll bring my kit and put them in and the spoiler on for you

Or jus use the biggest rivets u have in a normal rivet gun with washers and redrill holes in the spoiler and van to hold it on. I have done the riv-nut thing and there is no difference in the way it stays on its just cheaper - unless u own a rivnut gun! Or jus use big self tappers to hold it on if u really feel the need to remove it once in a while... oh n don't forget to use big washers! :ok

Mr Hully. That would be an offer not to refuse  I could start with those nice words like 'Thank You' and 'Beer'.
Err.. when would the Tech Weekend be though !? Cant find anything definite about it in the Events bit. I'm on the annual 'surf trip' to Devon until the 3rd August.

No worries, it'll be arranged directly and I'll bring the kit and stainless fasteners with me (which is FREE  ) we'll have a drinky together but that's all.

Cool.. :D I'll return to this thread after 3rd August and lookout for news / arrangements. Let me know how you like your beer (dark, light, Irish, german, etc. .. or made of apples, pears )

During researches I also came across these fellas.

I assume then they are not rigid enough to support the whole spoiler shebang properly while it gets buffeted by the high winds inherent in spoilage activity ? The ease of fitment was initially attractive I'll admit.

BTW .. I'm sure I've seen the Hulley Bus parked at the (new) Derby Royal Infirmary (was DCGH). Next time I'll say Hi !

Those rivnuts look the real deal, never used them but if you'd prefer to go down that route .....

Yep, it IS kinda difficult to hide  I have to have scans twice a year there and Jackie aka The Present Mrs Hulley (God Bless Her !) has been seeing the neurologist down there :(

AH.. nice link to spoiler fitment Cruz. Introduces another hitherto unexpected part though. Snap Washers. Better try and source some of those as well :?
