Coolant pump/metal pipe repair?

Hi,

I have a 1990 2.1 petrol ( DJ) Caravelle. The metal pipe that runs under/behind the pulleys and into the coolant pump is leaking from a rusty spot close to the pump flange. I'm trying to track down a replacement here on Gran Canaria, but not having much luck. May have
to have one sent over from the U.K. I assume they are not too difficult to locate in the U.K. In the meantime, is it possible to clean the
rust away and repair with some king of filler, adhesive...?

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Alan

Alan, it all depends upon how rusty the pipe is...... :D

There is a product called liquid metal that does have it uses, as does Araldite,,,,,, personally I would be having it repaired properly(brazed) while you look for a replacement...

Sorry but these are obsolete from VW, your best chance is for a good second hand one.

Ian.

Thanks, Fritz and Ian.

I still haven't removed too much of the rust, but i think it is a smallish hole.

If the part is no longer available new, any ideas on where i might find a used one? Not a lot of VWs in the scrapyards here on Gran Canaria.
