anyone have any experience or knowledge as regard legality might stop around the ruined castles of dahn and saw some mtb posts which had some fire/log roads on them so was thinking of exploring ?

All these farm / forest roads will be strictly for farm and forestry vehicles only, closed to any other kind of vehicle (sometimes that even icludes bikes )

oh well thought as much lots in croatia and bosnia but have to be careful about mines tho mightry and contact some of the german boys see if they are doing anything
