I am in the process at the moment of replacing my rear bearings. Before I try I just wondered if anyone new the size of the allen headed bolts that secure the drive shaft on. Didn't want to start trying all different size allen keys and end up rounding it off!

off the top f my head i think its i six they can also be an m8 spline clean the area thouroughly and spray wd40 or shock an unlock all over them (avail in halfords) you should ideally replace the bolts dont lose or forget the washers and also regrease the cv joints. a word of caution if you do find replacement bolts make they are 12.9 or 10.9 steel not 8.8 as these do not hold the torque also have look on the wiki or the bently if you've got one

Brickwerks?
Vw?

when i replaced the cv boots (inner and outer) at the same time the new boots that i bought from EURO car parts, (competetor to GSF) the new boots came with the new bolts and the funny washers that joint 2 bolts together, daose that make sence about the washers? and the grease.
hope this helps neil

I'm sure you can still get them as they are widely used on most Vw's. If not GSF do an alan key type a tad shorter and you will need some thread lock so probably best to get originals if poss as they have thread lock on them, thread lock is expensive for how much you get.
