Hi All,

Been well busy with work recently, hence my quietness on the forum...but have managed to free up this weekend so can meet up with you all at Coney ,with the Tonka.

I was wondering what the situation would be about using a set of off road tyres as I have road going ones fitted by the looks of them at the moment. Will there be a spare set there I could kindly take the use of for a bit over the weekend?

I am keen to do some off roading in the Tonka but judging by some of the pics on the site... some of you lot are a hardcore bunch.. Don't really think I want to destroy all the panelwork and roll my truck over just yet in the name of 4x4 hijinx... looks great fun tho.... So I might take things a little gentle like, as it would be good to get home in the syncro I turned up in.

I'd like to get a feel for controlling the vehicle and how to get the best from it before moving on. Hope this fits in with the flavour and spirit of the event.

Looking forward to meeting you all. I aiming on coming up late on Friday evening, hoping that access to the site going to be possible then? Is there a gate or entrance I should look out for, as it just says 1 mile on the left in the directions.

I think you will find that its not hard core at all.. or more to the point as hardcore as you want it..
you wont have to do anything you dont want too.. and there will be a lot of advice on hand..

tyres might be a bit harder... as most wont have a spare set of offroads as well as the ones they use.. but you might be lucky... if its dryish then the road tyres work quite well... but if a little muddy, you will be in trouble.. although it will give you a good idea of what happens on wilder stuff with mud tyres without the "risk"

I am sure someone will off a drive on proper mud tyres to give you an idea though...

cant help you with the tyres but as for getting aquianted there is a non trial group which potters about the place trying different hazzards in a non competitive manner, so you dont get people shouting "Go on, Go for it, you've got acres of space" etc trying to precipitate red mist descension

I must point out that no one will be driving about the place in a Competitive manner. it not a race you know!?!

There will as folk have said be a range of challenges which will hopefully offer something for every level of experience. You will not be pressured in any way to do anything you don't want to do. If you have any doubts or questions ask a marshal or one of the organisors and they'll point you in the right direction.

You don't wanna be borrowing tyres that anyone else has used on your van with varrying levels of tread etc - I could be wrong but I assume it's a bit of a no no.

I got around ok last year on road tyres but I think it's going to be alot more muddy this time around and if so then you will be restricted about where you can go - although there will be plenty of people to recover you if necc.

A cheap set of MT's won't cost too much (circa £250 inc fitting) and might be worth considering however if you just want a flavour then you should be able to achieve it with what you have on.
