Help! T25 ... is it overheating or not???

Wondering if someone can offer some advise its my first van and I'm clueless!

I've an 84' T25 and the temp gauge is really weird, the needle sits just to the right of the red light most of the time then seems to ride up to about three quarters position and sit there. Have checked fluid levels, all good and i top water up regularly. She motors along at 55-60 for long period with no probs, I'm not loosing water from the reservoir and the water bootles don't leak and I don't have na overheating problem in terms of her belching out steam. I've hot air from the interior heating, but the gauge just looks high to me.

Am i paranoid?????

THe bloke i bought it off, said he had a new temp sensor fitted as the old one used to register too low and needed replacing, is this one just sensitive???

Thanks but starting to spend more time looking at the temp gauge thna anythingelse!

as long as it doesn't go any higher then it should be OK.. for how easy it is to do I would check that ALL of the radiator is getting warm just to rule out any air locking possibility and to also verify the thermostat is opening too

They do vary from van to van.
Sensors vary, gauges vary and thermostats vary.

As has been said, check the rad after a run that it is hot from top to bottom, you certainly don't want any air locks in these vehicles.

"normal" according to the handbook, is the 3/4 of the gauge between the two white box areas....

you are looking for change in where it normally is, so its a case of know your van i guess..... a new sender will maybe make "normall" somewhere different on the gauge.......

You didn't mention if the coolant LED flashed or if the Rad fan was kicking in. The LED will flash to warn you of coolant loss or if the coolant temp is too high. You will have noticed that it flashes for a few seconds when you switch the ignition on. Might be worth checking the voltage at the fuel temp gauges, should be around 10V (not 12V). Easy to do if you can use a multimeter by taking the cowling off.

sensor from GSF is too sensitive, reads too high, I had one which was always just about on maximum once the engine had warmed up to normal operating temperature. Replaced it with a genuine one and now it sits at just over half way, as per the rule book :)

Thanks to everyone for getting back to me on this! Was real paranoid!

Red light is only coming on when u start up the van and no sign of it coming on as if its overheating.

Thin k it could be an over sensitiver sensor as you suggest, but I'm going to take all th advice and check the radiator as well.

Thnaks to everyone who has posted though!

:ok

i just made a new topic asking about this then deleted it because i saw yours :? .my temp guage used to stay in the min block on the left all the time unless i went over 60 then it would go just over the min block ,if i gave it some more it would go to half way..this led me to believe that the thermostat was stuck open ,so i changed it the other day.now it goes straight up to just after the led and stays there(the whole of the led is visible, but only just).id say its 2 thirds the way over.now this was a bit of a shock first time round as it didnt take long to get there and i was used to it being to the left.reading back the response from others on her it seems this is ok.i went over 60 miles in it today and it just stayed in the same place unless i was coasting down hill then it covered the led ,dead center....im guessing it is working fine now but time will tell eh
