Are there any tricks of the trade to fill the gearbox with oil? as it is such a pain in the ****. I was thinking about trying to use the easy bleed somehow. are there any special tools, to make this job easier?

Less than a meter of fuel pipe or similar, a big funnel and an assistant.

Don't forget to remove the fill plug before the drain just in case it doesn't come out.

I found I could wedge my big funnel in the wheel arch and send the assistant in to make a brew as it happens.

apparently there is some info on the Wiki thing (click above). Make sure you can undo the filler before you undo the drain too.

I can't access the Wiki, it says "you have to log in" or something.

I did look on the wiki, and the page was blank. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place.

i use a 1/2 " garden hose about 3ft long and a funnel it fits, pass the hose down frm the engine bay, the funnel sits on the top of the air filter and dribbles the oil in over a period of time not unlike that of having ya tea, or watching the news...

*Tip* warm the oil gently first, it flows better, quicker and dont stink as much - just dont get caught mis using the kitchen appliances.

Yeah I dont think a kettle full of gearbox oil boiling away in the kitchen would smell too fantastic, or be all that safe for that matter!

Make sure you use EP80 GL4 not EP80 GL5--- if yer want 't give it a treat fill it with Redline MT90-fully synthetic--£57 for 8 US quarts but a definite improvement

Castrol gear oil used to be sold in a plastic bottle with two tubes. One fitted on the top and had a hook at the top to go into the gearbox with the bottle vertical, the other fitted inside the bottle lid going down to the bottom of the bottle.

When you pressed the bottle it pumped the oil up from the bottom of the bottle into the gearbox.

I still have mine from years ago. No messing with hose pipes, funnels etc. I don't know if this type of bottle is still available?
