errattic idle

just bought a 2.0 Aircooled camper

however the idle is all over the place and sometimes dies. is this a problem with the solex carbs?

Eh up Kev how it hangin ? Did you know the Comrades club is now closed (Financial Problems) and the Bowling green resembles summat at Martin Mere,,,,,,it is so sad to see it this way......
Best advice I can give you is try to secure any vacuum hoses or any other hoses fitted to the intake. Balancing the carbs will improve things a whole lot and will at the same time give you an indication if the throttle spindles are worn. (these can be made good again if required).

Next to the ignition module on the left of engine bay could be a black box with 2 connectors on it, unplug the connectors from the box and plug them together... remove the black box and place in nearest bin........ you may have to tweak the idle setting a fraction on the carbs if a little low.. but this should cure your erratic idle.. But as said it could be worn out carbs/air leaks etc if the box has been bypassed already..

Disconnecting the black box did the trick for the idle

i take it the black boxes go off and cause problems? van still hunting a bit. how do i go about balancing the carbs? think i've found the idle screw
