T25 engine bay insulation ??

I have just removed the under engine cover from my 1984 T25, given it a damn good clean and am looking to repaint it and refit.
I may need to replace the shaped foam sound insulation.

Is there a supplier for these items ?

Alternatively if I have to cut it myself can I get away with aluminium backed house insulation or is there a specific grade for vehicles?

Thanks for any advice

Regards
Ian

im not that familiar with water cooled arrangements. i suppose most things are flamable depending how close they are to exhaust systems etc, just not to sure about employing building products for the job. i can test an offcut of kingspan (foil backed insulation) with direct heat on monday.

will post my findings up here :ok

I would use somthing like closed cell foam with a fire retardant and perhap one side aluminised to reflect heat? Thre is a firm on south east London that make what they cll I think LSP 507 which is this type of product. When exposed to heat its fine, if exposd to flame it simply crumbles into a charred substance that will not ignite. Very good for sound and heat insulation with fire retardant qualities. I'll check the company name.

I need this too, mine is Aircooled. I always thought it was sound deadening?

Hi & thanks to everyone for the replies to my post. I'll follow up later in the week & post any additional info I find.

RIcj&Ang - I've posted a photo of the under engine cover - it keeps the road crud of the engine. You can see the two pieces of foam that I need to replace.

I just took my splash guard off to replace the muffler and check the engine mounts. There was some foam insulation on the side of the oil and fuel filters. It was hard to know what it originally looked like because it was soaked with oil/diesel fuel. Under that it was seriously rusted through. I mended it with some sheet aluminum but left the insulation out. I can't work out what it is doing there in the first place.
