Sump Plug

Wanted to do an oil change today, however when I got underneath some fool had knackered the sump plug (rounded off) They had the removed & re-fitted by using a screwdriver & a hammer by the looks of things.
I want to replace it as not sure it will fit again & not leak.
Are all T25 sump plugs the same? as GSF only offer an Aircooled option & JK a T2 option?
If not, does anybody know where I can source one?
I have a 89 Syncro with a 1.6TD (JX)
Thanks in advance

OMG... they are something like £3.00 from VW, why give yourself the grief and hassel trying to weld to an old knackered bung?

needs must! its all very well saying get a new one, but i find that whenever these things happen its past opening time, and not all of us have the luxury of a VW outlet just a few streets away!

anyhow, im pretty sure that bay sump plugs are different.

the main thing is to make sure the engine is warm before attempting to undo the sump plug - ally sump, steel plug, needs to be warm to allow it coming undone, and dont ever over tighten, 1/2 a turn over finger tight and the crush washer is doing it job.

Rotherham is not exactly outter mongolia...
Needs must? well I'm sure as the old rounded bung is still in place the oil change can wait another week? and there was no indication that the van was not driveable so I presume he can go and collect his new bung...infact he could order it over the phone to save two journeys.

Hang on a mo! The poster is asking where he can source one and if they are all the same. Welding a nut is a 'get you outa trouble' and Red is stating that you can get a new one from VW for peanuts...........let the poster decide what to do........ :D
