How do.
I have some prototype syncro tank straps going to syncropendance with Stan.
I want to get them made in this country at sensible money, and for them to fit.
I've had some of the ill fitting ones here, not over impressed so I've done my own.
I sent the design to the machine shop, and they have made me a mild steel set to try out, trouble is that I don't have anything to compare them to.
Stan is taking them for you lot to have a look at as I don't want to get a load of stuff made that no one wants, so I would be grateful of any input.

I have a set of unused stainless straps which were sourced in Germany , I am not sure if these are the ones you have already seen, but you are welcome to a lend of them if it helps, Jebiga41
fitted a set of these so he can comment on the quality/fit. Let me know before 12.00 on friday & I will bring them to Syncropendance, I can get them back when I am over for Vanfest

Maybe got wrong end of stick about the prototypes, but seemed far too thin... maybe they were just templates rather than prototypes?

I'll send Simon an email with a summary of the comments garnered at the event, I've also sent him a genuine nearside strap so he can use that as a template for the next version.

Wondering... Should /could a slightly better fuel-pump mount be incorporated at the same time on the n/s strap? e.g corrosion problem shield/bash problem shield/slight reposition?

It was just done in mild steel to keep the cost down as it was a prototype, they will be done in stainless for production.
I've nowt to compare it to here, hence me sending it down.
I've just done the Diesel one at first, fuel pump mount is nothing fancy and will be dealt with once I'm/your happy with the shape.
The German ones I fitted here had the hole for the outlet at the bottom of the tank in the wrong place, I've already moved it 20mm, is it still not far enough?

Good point, think this may be to original guesstimate in design, and the fact that packing between strap & tank was used and of course depends a bit on tank seating & degree of tension applied (e.g. rust above expands things a bit, etc.)

Just wondering whether the VW engineers consulted as widely as this before coming up with their original design!

might be also worth looking at the option of an extension to be able to attach the strap to the rear beam so as not have to take out the tank or is that just being lazy?? Oh thanks for parts simon and thanks again stan for bringing them down and the calipers back also jaegers have fingers which allow them to be bent to the shape of the tank and cuts down on additional welding

What was the outcome of all this development? Are they in production now? Can't see them on Brickwerks.

on back burner at the mo, I have the samples and the last orig genuine n/s bottom strap to pattern from, offside not so complicated, when I get time to do my straps then I'll look at it again, but tbh don't expect any progress this side of xmas/NY.

What are the part numbers I will see if the original tech drawings are in the data base at work, should save you some time getting them drawn up.
