Camper bed - head front or feet front ! ( in the bed that is )

Silly question really but what are the pro's and con's !!

We havn't used ours for camping yet ( only had "Colin" for 2 weeks )

I do have a good reason for asking tho, as it influences positioning of interior light switches, etc...

head to front, for four reasons,
1. cant put the kettle on without getting out of bed with feet to front

2. dont bang you head on locker when sitting up

3. cant see whats going on with head jammed up tailgate

4. feet dont hang off end and freeze your tootsies.

and thats the way they were designed anyway, feet to the back.....

I sleep the other way otherwise I feel like my head will fall off and I have never hit my head on locker not do my feet hang off cos I fit the bed .and I can reach my kettle from bed

head to tailgate, so my pillow doesn't fall off the end. Also, we have the portaloo behind the drivers seat, so you don't want someone weeing right next to your head!

Pillows fall off if you have heads to front.

Both of us are tall (6ft and 5ft 10) but don't get cold feet - just curl up a bit!

I usually need a pee first thing in the morning so get out of bed to do that and put kettle on - and I don't want to see what's going on - not sure what Steve means - unless it's kids and their antics... we don't do kids (well only sliced in sandwiches anyway)

Not sure where the "that's the way they were designed" thing comes in as in our Leisuredrive there are 2 swivelling reading lights at the back - for reading in bed I would have thought (I suppose they could be for cutting your toenails and they are useful for working on the engine at night!)

The only exception to this habit of heads-to-the-back was a couple of years ago during that HOT summer and we were in the south of France - we tried the other way round with the slider open to get max ventilation - didn't make a lot of difference AND we got eaten by mossies!

I tend to sleep with my head in the up direction mostly. Being a bit lazy and not often being on a proper campsite I will only ever take a couple of runs at getting level at most and usually just camp where I stop. Having a caravan put me off all the complicated getting it level stramash for life and my fridge is very angle resistant.

That said I also have a reading lamp near the back and no requirement for a spotlight on my feet.

However, Autosleepers and I think westys have a slight rise on the edge of the seat, giving both thigh support when driving and a bulit in pillow when zzzzzzzz ...

feel more secure with my head in the middle...

We bought our camper last year and spent all the holidays sleeping with our heads at the front - pillows kept falling off and I kept kicking Phil in the head as I got up every morning. Accidentally kicking, obviously .

As of Southern Freeze we slept feet front and it seemed to work a lot better - you just need to be sure that your quilt / sleeping bag is long enough to drape over any cold tooties (and there were some frozen ones at Southern Freeze with no heater ).

We could also set up our DVD player to hook over the passenger seat and watch it from bed which we couldn't do the other way round...

I have slpet with my head at both ends and I prefere it in the middle, but at night its nice to lean on the tailgate but in a westy you tend to smack your head on the cupboard if you get up............

My first experience of sleeping in a camper was in a T2 that had a spare wheel in the back, it stunk, and i didnt want to sleep with my head snuggled up to that! So slept head to front from then on, the pillow doesnt fall off and its great to ba bale to lie in bed and put the kettle on, make the tea, get the breakfast..........

Definately feet to front. I can imagine Matt being too impressed with me having to get out to go to the loo in the middle of the night by swinging my legs over him to get out the bed. We are both tall and it really wouldn't be my idea of fun the other way round.

Re cold feet we have a fleecy blanket under our duvet which I fold the bottom quarter under and put feet in there, Though Matt forgets till he trys to play footsie and I get the "I always forget to do that" speech
