Help broken exhaust emergency advice

I'm on an extended roadtrip currently near uffington in Oxford. My exhaust has sheared away where the pipe runs into the silencer ( the weld has come apart) very noisy !

I have some questions: can it be welded back together even if the pipe is a bit rusty?
Of not how hard is it to replace the pipe - is it a part that usually needs
to be ordered?
What should I expected to pay in each case?
Can anyone recomend a good garage near here?

Thanks for helping, ant

Exhaust backbox is around £90 on JustKampers.
I think you should be fine to drive it to a garage

You could try getting it welded, but once they start to go it won't be too long before it goes again.

Welded my own exhaust on an XR3i years ago at work. Thought the weld was good but it just cracked further up the weld within a few days.

To do it properly you'd need to have the whole of the sections affected by any welding to be heat treated, then welded whilst heat is kept applied seperately to the surrounding area & then left to cool preferably in an oven that can keep the heat balanced on a slow cooldown over several hours.

So it's probably a new exhaust unless you have all the equipment for welding & heat treating available to you as it'd probably cost a similar amount to repair it as mentioned as it would to buy a new one!

Best of luck.
