All,

My van in near on ready, and am wanting to get some breakdown cover sorted...

I'm after roadside & recovery (destination of my choice), for either the van on its own, or joint cover.

What have you guys got? and/or who can yopu recommend?

AA joint cover roadside and relay £97

It works differently to normal breakdown companies, you pay and then claim the money back from AutoAid, it also means that you can pick and chose who you want to use or they can send someone out. Can't recommend them highly enough, got us and the van picked up from Oxford last year, breakdown company at the scene in about 30 mins and my money was refunded in less than 2 weeks

Just got insurance renewal from footman james (6yr NCB - wife and self (40ish each)) 6k value on van)
£154 p.a. including euro breakdown cover.

Had to use them last year when the engine let go - local recovery agent (AA, RAC, Green Flag etc - is usually all the same bloke up here!!!)

Perfectly happy with the cover - although if I was off to Europe i would look a bit closer at the max £3k per incident recovery clause - how much does it cost to get recovered from {insert random place in europe}?

been with RAC for 20 years, I pay about £100 ? but this is with the `arrival` bit, this means they will go on to a campsite to rescue you, some of the other companys won`t apparently, used them twice in the last year when the picassos low pressure fuel pump failed, (thursday night the most recent ! ) great service, i dont even think about rejoining now, but each to his own

I work in the roadside rescue recovery industry and I had a right nightmare trying to get breakdown cover for a 24 year old vehicle for a decent price finally done it through the RAC online £67 to either fix or recover to a destination of my choice but tbh if you keep a spare coil, rotor arm dizzy cap and plugs on board you shouldn't ever really need recovery

thanks for all your reply's guys, i've been looking at the just kampers one, all much of a muchness really, but these guys specialise in the older vehicle, + home start and euro cover is included..
anyone got stories on these guys?

just a word of warning on this point.

...I had AA breakdown cover with my bank account & didn't read the smallprint, it only covered me for roadside assistance; which means that if they can't fix it they take you to a garage of their choice and if the breakdown happens out of hours, they'll arrange recovery during normal office hours

I was offered a 'relay' upgrade over the phone for an extra £99, but was told that the cover wasn't effective for 12 hours & they would only recover free for upto 50 miles, they charge an extra £2 per mile thereafter......oh, and if i wanted them to take my trailer too, that would be extra

as I wanted to get home last night (work commitments & all that) i got a contractor to take me home - I'm now £285 poorer

doh.. that's not good... its a bloomin minfield this breakdown lark.. think i'm gunna go with RAC, relay recovery @ a online price of £68... should be ok i reckon..??
