just had mot & told rear offside spring fractured, can't see anything but asmall rust patch.
Anyway got to be changed for mot.
Do I have to replace just the one or is it a good idea to change both?
Also how do I check whether the springs are the 30 mm lower carat springs or standard ?
I was thinking that i would lower the van whilst putting new springs on, but need to get it done in 10 days for retest, unless anyone knows a mechanic in macclesfield .Any thoughts on lowering let me know!
Any advice greatly appreciated for a relative novice who is slowly working through the whole van

good used spring will be the quickes and easiest solution...
Lowering isnt too hard, but getting the right kit is... some of the really cheap stuff is.... er cheap...
Brickwerks does top quality gear... all tried and tested....
Steve at Gasure is prob your local T25 specialist...

from factory 30mm lower springs were fitted to some caravelle gl and carat models only
you need to remov the spring and clean them off as they have paint codes on them.
comon is green/yellow which are fitted to most types of model
some panel vans have harder longer blue code springs
either fit a pair or chck and match yours
you can change a rear spring in about 15 mins and you dont even need to remove the wheel!
undo the lower shocker mount and jack the vehicle up(under chassis) the arm will drop allownig the spring to be reomved. fit replacement then lower the jack and refit shocker bolt!

Thanks for the replies,
asked about carat springs because i've got carat wheels, but added after I think.
buying a pair of standard springs as with all the other work needed I'm a little short of funds, but a trip to brickworks or gas sure is on the cards.
Still wondering how the last mot was legit after all the stuff found on this mot
But Life is a journey not a destination, & as i was told at the start of the camper journey , ' it's a VW thing'
Once again thanks for the advice
