Is it a hot plate for cooking? Van cooking query

Hi all,

Now I know this is going to make me sound like a right pillock!

There is a metal plate between the hob and the lid and I thought it was just to protect the lid from gettting scorched if you are driving off soon after cooking. OH thought it may be a hot plate powered by the gas underneath.......he is envisaging all the things he could 'griddle' i think!

Anyway...is it a seviceable hot plate or just a plate to stop the ild getting hot?? Answers greatfully recieved as there is money on this one!!! JOKING :D

The Westy manual says in no uncertain terms that it is not to be used for cooking.

Makes a handy draining board, though.

Hi, it is literally a metal piece that fits inside the lid of the top that pulls down to cover the hob when you are driving along. Nothing fancy or owt!!! Not some special 'thing'!!!!

I think as first reply said in their Westy manual it is just a protective type cover to stop lid getting burnt!!

Why all the secrecy? We should be told. Let's see a photo of the offending item?

I agree with Rob it is a draining board
After washing your dishes in your little sink try it out.

It's here in the wiki with pictures if this is the bit you mean

https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Sc ... er_manuals

Click on Vanagon Owners Manual and it's on Page 5; as long as yours isn't a Canadian van, you can use it as a heat shield & a draining board.. :ok

It is a drainer for all that lovely washing up, hence the hole over the sink. I got a griddle plate to fit over both burners from JK last year, works ok.
