Brake siezed on....on M1 coming back from Stopover!

Pootling along in slow lane of M1 Northbound, taking it easy 55-60mph.
Then found I was slowing right down.......couldnt get over 40 mph
Came off at next junction and front off-side brake was sizzling hot!!!
Gave it a few minutes then tried again......this time brake pedal was going straight to the floor with very little braking effect
Decided between me and me mates enough was enough and got recovered home.
I thought I noticed on Friday on way down a pulsing a bit through the brake pedal but it seemed to have gone on way home.
So Im thinking new caliper, disk, pads and flexi + new wheel bearings as all the grease melted out of existing one!!!
So do I need to do owt else other than above?
Should I do both sides or can I just do the faulty side?
Also do I need to check the rears at all?
Lastly are post '86 front brakes any better and can I retro-fit them to my '81 Devon
Its an Automatic so they get a bit of a pasting!
Thanx
Ben
