A mechanic told my mate that the engine becomes a "junkie" to the additives and doesn't perform as well if you dont use them consistantley. However i find this hard to believe so take this with a pinch of salt and only believe it if anyone backs it up on here!

Sorry, regular service and/or repair ... I don't bother with additives.

I have been know to 'Dabble' in some illegal stuff in the past,,,,,But somehow seem to have grown out of that sort of thing.
I personally never found a better 'High' than a lung full of 4* fuel during the syphoning process, ,,,,,,an art that seems to have died away since the advent of the locking fuel cap......

Fritz,,,,,,,,,
My FSIE moped was sponsored by most of the people who owned Morris 1000's/Mini's or various Vauxhalls of the same era who lived in our village.......

PS, you know who you are,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

lol fritz!
hey cube, nearly all moving parts are covered and washed with oil, most modern oils have zinc additives etc, so i am not so sure about what the mechanic said, having said that, they're not a replacement for servicing and repair.

my van is back up and running but shortly after starting her up she cuts out on idle. i think the screw needs adjusting at the carb. i am going to change the plugs first.

remember you have to "set" the idle speed from cold with one or two full depressions of the accelerator.

yes .....way
there are in fact three steps of idle speed.
if the set spring has broken then it won't set
isn't that how to open the choke?
the choke sets itself. as the engine cools the choke flaps close.
As you rev the pull down unit opens the flaps with vacuum.
as the engine warms the bi metal spring opens the choke and lets the stepped idle speed drop the the next step

I have always teflon treated my engines once they have done at least 50,000 miles. Thats about the time they reach their peak in terms of performance and I see it as an insurance against sudden loss of oil, a scenario that did once happen in a bug I owned and I'm pretty sure it saved the day as I was able to drive ten miles home with virtually no oil in it. I think the record for a teflon treated engine with no oil in the sump is around 600km in Australia.
I think 20 years using it is enough to know whether it works or not. Generally you see a slight rise in revs once it beds in and it runs a lot smoother. My father drives hackney cabs and sings its praises too.
