Late thermostat help

I have the plastic thermostat housing for a 1.9 DG
the new engine has a syncro (metal) thermostat.

the plastic temp sensor plugs (X2) are different to the metal.

is it a simple re-wire to the new plug type?

No big issue, some of the 1.9's have a different connector, but the syncro housing may just have a M10 brass sensor for the temp gauge.
Obviously the 2 pin sensors do not have an earth, hence them needing the second connection to function, so if you have 2 wires for s single pin sensor, just don't use the brown wire, it will take an earth from the engine.
the blue, screw in 2 pin temp sensor should just plug in, are you doing a 2.1 with a carb? not sure if the blue sensor will be compatable if it is replacing the manifold heater sensor, would have to check the sensor readings to see if they give the same, or similar resistance readings for the same given temperature.

Thanks Simon

yes using a carb.
I see that there is an easy fix for the earthed sensor (black). by simply removing the brown wire and attaching the remaining wire the the brass pin, as you suggest.
the sensor in the dg is also blue in colour, but with a brass sensor chamber, I presumed that their function was the same.
I could easily hard wire the pins. But as you say the resistivity may be different.

we shall see :D
