Having sorted wiring; van is now pouring vast amounts of petrol straight into bores and will not turn over without spark plugs removed, now has at least a litre of petrol added to the oil, taken spark plugs out and right hand bore nearest exhaust fills with petrol instantly, all other plugs doused in petrol at the same time, HOW DO I FIX THIS?? ANY HELP PLEASE gratefully recieved soon as; thanks Roger G.

Hi Roger, please give a little more details about the engine, ie, size, carbs or fuel injection etc, engine code could be good.
Hope you get it sorted, and see you friday

Ok, from logic not practice on thsi one...
Either ecu signal is holding injectors open or there's a short so the injector or injectors (which is it, one or all?) are constantly open...
obviously guessing there as you've had the fire and the wiring apart, so either the ecu is gnaff or some conenctions are wrong/shorted...
Gonna phone Russel for you..

engine is 2.1 digijet, 1988, was running perfectly before petrol pipe failed and fire damaged wiring; new loom connected and new fuel pipes otherwise nothing was touched, tried turning engine over, but engine seemed siezed until plugs were removed one by one and then turning engine over was easy but bores were full of petrol, tried disconnecting fuel lines one by one andpump is switching in and out properly except when iniatially turning starter, you can hear the fuel rushing in as long as the starter is turning, compression increases so quickly that the engine stops turning until you remove aplug to let the fuel out; Rog.

Russel says this: Not common at all but..
1) Hall sender unit in dizzi (controls injection signal)
I can send you one of these, let me know asap if you want to try it and can't get one close to home
Needs to know
2) Have you changed the whole engine sub-harness at the white plugs?
3) Have you changed the ecu?
Said a bit more of course but lets start there...

Thanks Clive and Russell, have spare dizzi, have changed loom at white plugs, have spade terminal ,looks like an earth unattached on side of dizzi; still using ecu as it only had scorch marks on one corner, dizi on other hand was close to the source of fire;rog;

p.s. wot does hall sender look like?.have also changed AIRFLOW meter and filter housing due to damage, have spare ECU here to try, what should I try first?

I'll scan a picture of the dizzi and send it to you.

Roger,
The injectors are group switched by being grounded by the ECU, they are fed 12V by the same circuit that powers the fuel pump. If there's short circuit grounding the injectors they will be open (squirting) all the time the ignition on (fuel pump running). Is this the case ? You can check what they are doing using a multimeter to check the voltage across them, ) 0V=off, 12V=on.
If it's a less gross fault than this, eg. simply running way too rich, then it could be a sensor signal to the ECU out of whack that's fooling it's in a 'cold-start', 'wide-open-throttle' or other state that need lots of fuel. These signals should be checked using a multimeter:
AFM
temp senders
throttle switch

Roger, any news ?
I'm sure I'm not the only one here concerned about a fellow 'naut with a dead Syncro only 3 days before CF.

O.K. Guys, watch this space in the next 48hrs. it will determine wether it is to be Styer-Puch Fiat or V.W. both still need work, thanks to you guys we think the Sync. will now start, have to drain the petrol out of the sump first though, wish me luck, Rog.
