Pushrod tubes & seals

I paid to have the pushrods & seals replaced last year due to an oil leak, the van is in a different garage now after springing another oil leak, the mechanic is saying that it's the pushrods again.
how long should these things last once they've been replaced? I know that they arn't an expensive part but I paid a fair bit in labour to get them done

Like Rob says ,they should last a few years ,But did you have both sides done last year. The last years garage could have just done the one/s that were leaking
I'd pay to get both sides done (all 8 of the buggers) and then you will know they are all good.
Not sure if there's any quality issues with the seals ?

Cheers ,
I did pay for all 8 to be done last year - the garage that iv'e just been to said that there maybe an issue with the seals not sealing due to not being clean or something but it is a new tube / seal leaking. I have tried phoning the place where I had them done last year & all I got was "call back tomorrow" I'm not holding out much hope that they'll put them right; this was the same garage that fitted an exhaust for £350 when I'd only asked them to look at where it was blowing from
moral of the story is........go by personal recommendation when choosing a garage, not the fact that it claims to be an 'Aircooled specialist'

There are some bad seals on the market, GSF is typical, they are lasting about a year before they start leaking again, labour for this job should be 1-2 hours maximum, depending on how much prep and cleaning they have to do, unfortunately I learned the hard way, did a customers that took only an hour using GSF seals they broke down and leaked after 6 months, bought the silicon seals from cool-air which have lasted 18 months so far and are still dry.

I believe that they were GSF seals fitted - the garage is next door to a GSF outlet.......so how do I get hold of some of these silicon seals steve? are cool-air a brand? I would much rather pay a little extra now & not have to shell out on an annual basis

That reply should have read 18 months and still dry, however try these peeps
http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/ca/3764/index/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for your seals, give them a ring and tell them you want the red silicon seals if i remember rightly they are about 49p each

Hi,
Choosing a garage by personel recomendation doesn't always work either.
Earlier this year I paid out my hard earned cash to a well known vw expert/recomended garage for new tappets, push rod tubes and seals etc. A few days later I had push rod tube seal leak resulting in RAC recovery job as I was on holiday. Later discovered when having the work re-done that the tappets were not new ones, two split seals, damaged tube, original rocker box cover seals had been re- used (leaking) and the tappet adjusting bolts had been 'attacked' with a grinder.
Needless to say I did not get any response when I asked the 'experts what work they had done.
Had to put it down to one of lifes experiences.
