Legacy EJ22 alternator grief...

Hi All,
Well I finally bought a bus with some reasonably decent panels and a few toys after looking at some truly regrettable examples (no offence...) details as per signature below. Picture to go in the garage soon.
It's got an early 90's EJ22 sohc 16v motor which may have been installed by TSR some time ago. Immediate problem is that the alternator is badly over charging the battery - enough to make the driver choke on the fumes and double up as a seat heater!
The alt is the early 4-pin round plug job and mega bucks from anywhere that has stock. Can the wiring be altered to use the later 2-wire rectangular plug (legacy/impreza type)
The other thing is the exhaust is LOUD and going to rust faster than the n/s sill. It WILL get me nicked.
Does anyone know of a stainless system or had one made? Happy to pay the right money for the right quality job.
Going to pick up a Viking pop-top from Leeds soon and get it fitted by Outermotive in Warwick.
This is going to be a sweet camper. Kids are stoked!

Is your exhaust a single port or double?

Thanks guys,
RJES look like the right sort of outfit (I'm in production and prototype engineering myself) Nice kit.
I did ask TSR if they had any build sheet or record of my bus, but no reply. Should I be suprised or not?

Oh yes, my motor has two exhaust ports each side. The crappy exhaust is made from the old Legacy downpipes and collector, welded to a long 'L' and a single straight-through box on the o/s corner. Sounds very scooby.

I have just sold a twin port Small car header

I only have a single port left. I have a Kennedy manifold with a Small car silencer on my bus, I personally think it's a little too quiet. I do plan on making a system using RJES manifolds.... Later.
One thing i would like to say about Richard (RJES) is that he is so helpful if you are a customer.
I paid TSR a deposit of £500 and when I was going to have mine done. Then i couldn't get one good word of feed back when asking on the forums. I panicked a bit at the bad response and paid someone else to do mine. I have never been able to get them to respond any e-mails i have ever sent them. Lost my deposit

Why didn't I think of getting a repair done?

Cheers.
Too used to having to buy everything new...
Reassuring to hear good things about RJES - will contact Richard soon.
TSR's sticker is going to leave the rear window sharpish.

RJES manifolds connected to
http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/custom_p ... a=2.0+inch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; the world is your oyster. The only thing i would say is be careful with fitting because a lot of the parts are NOT interchangeable. Can you TIG weld?

I suspect that if I could TIG then I'd have a lot more work!
However I do know a man who can...and his work is superb.
If I made up a jig to establish manifold flange positions etc, who would be interested in some decent pipes if we made a small batch?
Spread the word.

Now that I've done a bit of digging around t'interweb, I came across this VERY useful site!
The key was adding the word "Hitachi" to my search for "Subaru Legacy alternator"...
Wood auto supplies Ltd:
http://www.woodauto.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They have fantastic cross-reference tables attached to all their remanufactured parts which list individual component part numbers all by OEM reference as well as Wood's own numbers.
My alternator is a Hitachi LR170732C (round plug, 4 pin) from a Legacy 1(~90-94)
Have now found a new/remanufactured unit via ebay (of course) for £109inc+post at: thestartermotoralternatorco.ltd, Plymouth.
I went for it.
Still going to get knackered one refurbed locally, just to be on the safe side.

TSR - Yeah, don't I know it now!
I'm going to get a set of water and ex. pipes from smallcar (maybe a bar set too) to start doing the job properly.
Need to keep some cash back for the bodywork jobs, though. And the poptop. And the fit-out.
