Replacing handbrake mechanism

i'm going to look at a van this weekend that needs the hand brake lever and mechanism replacing before its next MOT
can't say how bad it is, so how much work is involved in this?? major op? or do able??

IF and I mean
IF the front cable is OK then it's a doddle. There's a clevis pin and a clip and the lever assy will unfasten and come off. HOWEVER if the front cable is fooked then it's tank down time, locate a front cable (rocking horse p% at the moment) etc etc ... then there's the state of the tank and whatever other horrors you unearth

The 'cable' is in fact 3 cables .... one from the lever which is routed above the fuel tank, and then, via a spreader bar, to one cable to each rear drum. The front one is obsolete but I believe Simon Baxter's Brickwerks is having some manufactured, the back ones are readily available and cheap(ish).

the hand brake works now, enough to pass the test, but needs the mechanism to be replaced prior to next mot
this would suggest the cable is ok?? just after opinions as i don't mind taking on a van that needs some bits doing, but not open heart surgery

Did a repair on my front cable as I snapped it at the adjusting nut & threads whilst trying to adjust the damn thing and then discovered it was obsolete
. Cut a 5mm thread on it and joined it together with a piece of 5mm threaded rod and a threaded rod coupling plus a couple of locking nuts either side of the coupling. Pretty sound repair as well, thanks to the advice of Red Westie & kevtherev
Then I found out out that Brickwerks were getting some in stock

Hi any help on where to get these cables just bought our camper and it needs new handbrake cables, dont know whether this is in the right place cindy66
