Help with turbo please.

Hi, i have oil coming out of my exhaust (brand new exhaust) pipe and lots of smoke! I assume the turbo is kapput! (or at least the oil seals). The turbo is making a spinning noise as usual but obviously there is something wrong with it. So i have some options now, either to replace with new (recon) one, source a second hand one or buy a rebuild kit (cheapest). Has anyone ever used the rebuild kits? You can get them of ebay but i certainly dont want to start the job if they are not the best option. Ive never rebuilt a turbo before so dont know if its just a take it off and replace the parts job or a lot more complicated than it sounds... I can do a lot of the engine jobs as i have just put on new cylinder head, starter motor, oil pump, timing belt and the new exhaust so i dont mind tackling the turbo.
Any links or advice would be a big help.
Typical, i was just on the way to the MOT as well!!

Many thanks.
ROB
