Hi all,

We have an underslung gas tank on a 1989 Westy.

We have just used up the gas left in it this weekend whilst away. We are off to France in August and wondeered if there are any limits to how much gas you are allowed to carry on board whilst on Eurotunnel. The only thing they asked when we booked was if it was LPG coverted for fule which it isn't.

Does anyone know if there are any 'rules' regarding the on board tank. Also is it the same to fill up with gas as in th UK when we are in France?

I think you'd better specifically check with the tunnel people. Last I heard was that they didn't allow gas in any shape or form in the tunnel, although they may make an exception for LPG powered vehicles. Since your gas isn't for the vehicle they might refuse you.

Westy tank cuts off at 80%....not sure what rules Eurotunnel has....give them a ring.
A full Westy tank lasts quite a long time...we did 3 weeks in Europe last summer, used a cadac BBQ, taking it's supply off the Westy tank, every day plus the hob and fridge in between and still came back to the UK with 30% still in the tank. We probably could have lasted another 2 weeks at a stretch. Answering your question...there are several different adapters available for different countries, France is difference to the UK but as I said, unless you plan on going for over a month you won't need to fill up, trust me.
Why are you going with Eurotunnel? blumming expensive! go Norfolk line...cost us £21.00 outbound, £23 coming back last year in August with our California Poptop.

It's the opposite Bren The tossers won't let us on the train cos we're powered by gas ... yet the caravans can go on But when the ferry's so cheap who cares.

Hiya Becks,filling your Westy tank is fine in France but you'll need the large dish-shaped adaptor ... fill up here before you go ... we used £7.23's worth in 2 and a half weeks last Summer.

Looks like you will have to go by ferry then........might see you on there! we plan to go early August, not sure what date yet.

Hi Red Westie.....unfrotunaltely our van is over 2.4m high so when we costed up Norfolk Line before it was coming out dearer than the tunnel unbelieveably!!! Thanks for the advice though.

Hi. I have taken our Camper on Eurotunnel. The rules are, if you only cook with it, and turn it off at the supply. You are ok. Should you use it to power the vehicle then it is a No No. They will call you over after passport control and check it it is turned off. We have been twice and seen both hightops and poptops on the tunnel. A hightop is not taller than a coach!!!!!!!!!! and lots of them use the tunnel. Also there are a lot of tunnels in France that you cannot drive a gas powered vehicle through, but can take a camper or caravan that uses LPG for cooking. Hope this helps.

I am sure that when OH and I got out the tape measure we were coming in just over 2.4....shall have to do it again!
Anyway the Eurotunnel is booked and I am pleased as didn't fancy the ferry as am chronically travel sick!!! Maybe i won't tell OH that Borismay only be 2.4m then I'll avoid the ferries!!! LOl

anyhow, the answer to your question is, either 12litres or 16litres depending on which size westy tank you have.
