I'm pretty sure its a 50/50 mix 9 litres of water & 9 litres of coolant.
There's lots of good advice in the wiki about refilling & bleeding the system and what spec coolant to use
Have fun

couple of other things, should it be losing any coolant level either in sitting there or in daily use?
also, where's cheapest place to get 8 litres of good coolant, what do you guys use?
thanks.

I use Comma Frostmaster Blue, mixed 50/50 all year round, it's available from most good motorfactors.
Do you not have a Haynes yet ? It would save you a lot of time having to wait for replies every time

Percentage of "coolant" ... read the manufacturers recomendations... your looking at a system capacity of about 18L
If you live in a particularly "hard water" area, I would use DI water if the system has been flushed out well and is in good nick...
But before filling it with coolant, you really need to find wheere the leaks are... and no, daily just sitting there using water isnt right.. it shouldnt lose any if the system is good...
There are loads of places to look... as you will see with a heynes manual to check it over... needs bleeding properly too, the Haynes manual also has a good procedure for this...
There is quite a bit of info in the WIKI at the top of the page also...
Oh and could you fill out a bit more of your profile with a town so we know where in the country you are, we can then point you in the direction of a friendly member or workshop that can also assist...

As I said, it shouldnt "use" coolant... so you need to find the leaks...
Oil... well from naff all to quite a bit... waterboxers quite often dont like being filled to the max line.. they use it until its about half way then seem to stay there... (My caravelle does this) from Min to Max is 0.5L......... use a normal branded 15w40 or 20w50 oil.. 0.5L every 1000 miles can be normal.
