speedo not working

Hi everyone,
We went camping in the New Forest recently, everything worked fine and then on the final day the speedo needle decided it was not going to move! I believe that one end fits into the housing in the centre of the drivers front wheel? (LHD Westy) on a quick inspection this seemed OK. Do the cables wear / brake? Is this a common problem? Any suggestions on were to start?

Thanks :ok

Hi,
Speedo drive is crude in the extreme.Cable pushs through square shaped boss in passengers wheel centre cap and is held in place with a circlip. The cap if damaged or square hole worn to round shape will allow the cable to spin in the cap hence no speedo reading. In addition circlip can wear and pop off into the great beyond, once again no speedo reading.
Suggest you check both before buying cable.Centre caps are still avaliable I think.Bought one a few years back when the above happened to me!
Good luck

Mine is a buggr for doing this! every couple of weeks it will need the top lifting off the pod, and the cable pushing back on, think the retaining catch on the plastic end is rounded off and not quite catching properly, might be worth just pulling the top of the instrument pod off and checking the cable end is firmly pushed on.
