2 litre CU Aircooled lacking pulling power

Its been a long saga, cylinder head has been fitted with new valves. Everything put back together, and Laurie Pettit has advised that my tappets were not hydraulic and these have been set at 0.15mm tdc, all has been put back together nicely..Bertha has sat idle since last September. I must add that she has been on a sloping drive whilst parked up.

She has fired into life, and managed to idle albeit loudly on her own. She settled somewhat into a fairly nice tickover. Into first gear and as soon as I release the clutch she stalls. Unless I push the revvs, and went from 1st to second ok, but again, only when maintaining the revvs..
:x

any help or suggestions much appreciated, must say wasserlaker has been an absolute star and has done so much to help lately.. :D

Going to do a compression test, but wondering what to start checking? oh god any help would be great..I just want to drive Bertha this summer

does sound like general tuning is required, ie carbs balanced and set up, timing checked and a good run to blow away the cob webs then go from there

Mine (same engine) is guaranteed to stall a couple of times before it gets nicely warmed up, I just assumed this was normal.

one carb was removed intact so why woukld it need re-balancing? Sorry if I am being a numbnuts..

Its not the salling so much as she idles fine, with no need to hold throttle.

Its the not enough power getting through to pull off the giving me the heebie jeebies. Guessing to check carbs and tappets?

Theres 2 Carburettors, and they need to have the same settings.

Ours lacked pulling power, we found out it was effectivley running on 3 cylinders.
Runs sweet now (touch wood), only stalled it twice and both times that was driver error.

Sounds to me like yours just needs a bit of a fiddle with :ok

Correct me if I`m wrong but seem to remember these carbs only use one side (left) to supply the fuel to both carbs for tickover so when balancing, the revs have to be high enough to bring both carbs properly into play

yes, the left hand carb feeds the right hand carb, so they are set differently?
