Frdge lighting but not getting cold

Hi

The fridge works well on mains but not on gas or battery. The fridge lights on gas which can only been seen from rear not through inspection glass but doesn't get cold. I have let it run for a few hours but to no avail. I'm not too bothered about the battery.

I need to get this sorted as we are using the camper for our honeymoon in a couple of weeks!!!

Thanks

Tom

Tom,

I had a similar problem with my fridge on my Westy. The jet is probably dirty resulting in a flame which is not sufficient to correctly heat up the cooling unit. I soaked the jet over night in paint thinner / brush cleaner, plus a blast of compressed air the next day and it now works fine. DO NOT FORCE ANYTHNG THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE JET!

:ok

Hi

Thanks for the advice. Do you think White Spirit would do the same??

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom

I'm not completely sure. When I soaked the jet overnight there was some little specks in the bottom of the jar the next day, I also agitated it by gently swirling the mixture. I was also aware that the hole in the jet was easier to see afterwards. I would give it go and see!

I didn't have any thinners so I used Coke instead. Make sure you wash in water properly afterwards.

What that stuff must do to your teeth!!!!

I actually had my fridge serviced by an engineer yesterday as I couldn't get it to light at all off the gas. What he did was to take it all to bits and blast compressed air through the jet (this hole is a mere pin-prick) so no shoving stuff through it. He did other checks to and cleaned up the burner and bits. Bobs your uncle we're working again! What he did mention that I found interesting was exactly it seems what the OP's problem may be??? Gas fridges will not perform well (if at all) if more than 4 degrees off level... t'is all to do with how the heat from the burner has to warm the fluid evenly to create the chemical cooling effect. :pimp

I have the same problem. The fridge and jet have been out twice . Interesting the thinners idea. I have blown it out with air and it
worked better ( at least the ingnition stopped clicking) The gas burns ok now but the fridge does not cool down. I will give it another
go. Anoying I must say though warm gin is not much good. :?

Try Coke or carb cleaner. The jet was gleaming after a night in coke. I tried compressed air before but didn't make much difference. Now after a couple of hours the element thingy majigy inside the fridge has a thin layer of ice on it!!
