WAter pump? or gasket?

Got a worsening leak on the water pump pn my 1990 1.9dg.

Appears to be leaking from behind the pulley - haynes says the pumps are not serviceable and it should be changed.
is this the case or has anyone succesfully replaced any gaskets?

looking at the price of a pump from GSF it might noe be worth the bother! (£34.50!)

anyone doen it recently, easy job? doesn't appear that hard to do, by biggest prob is draining the coolant as my plug is rusted solid.

Replace the whole pump. The pulley pulls the pump and this sh**s the bearings. We had one go and that is the only time we have ever been recovered.

don't touch the drain plug, don't worry about draining it will when you remove pipes and pump, it's a two hour job by the book, issues are the other connections onto the pump, lots of plus gas and patience, alternator belt off, pulley halves off (crack the three pulley bolts before removing the belt easiest) to give good access to the three bolts holding pump on, if you muller one of these it's engine out, but they are fine as long as you can get on them properly (it can be done with uj and extensions with pulley halves still on but angles are poo) and clean up any corossion/oil/crud build up especially the one nearest the crank pulley

aargh! i'm halfway through this and i've just realised gsf have given me the wrong pump for the second time.
Managed to put it in place before i realise its got a top outlet for the thermostat housing on an early dg. Not much use on my late dg tho.

Guess who's going to work in the beetle on monday

Have they definatly give you the wrong one, they do one pump which fits two engines 1.9 and a 2.1 I think. There is an extra outlet on the top of this pump which needs blanking off with a little rubber cap and jubilee clip!!

The 'extra' outlet (for the oil cooler/warmer fitted to 2.1s and some 1.9s) on the top unscrews and there should be a screw-in bung in the box.
