Engine hunting

Hi everyone , If I may pick your brains for a mo. I have a 1990 1.6td (JX) The engine runs a treat ,no excess smoke on starting a reasonable amount of power (but hard to gauge as it is my first 1.6 td). On tick over it runs smooth around 900rpm, but on slight throttle the engine hunts up and down(5-10mph) and then nice and smooth through out the rev range. You only notice it when maneuvering at slow speed and it is the same when the engine is hot or cold. The engine uses no water but does have a slight oil drip from the turbo. I'm due to replace some seals in the diesel pump(Bosch VE) could this be related. The van has done this since I've had it (6months) and the hunting issue predates the slight leak on the fuel pump by 5 months....Any ideas would be welcome :ok

mine does the same! and i've heard of other people with the same problem, i guess injection pump ware is the cause [mine has done 170,000 miles! ].
good luck.
