saw this elsewhere, whilst surfing,

Announcing the greatest 4x4 challenge of 2006 ... and it will be held 'on the road'!

Having successfully established an inaugural world record of 260 vehicles in April 2004 for the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ “Longest Land Rover Procession"|, ever since owners of many other marques of 4x4 have expressed a desire to establish a record featuring their favourite vehicle. This being the case, it has been decided the time is now right to attempt a world record for every make of 4x4 ever produced!

Entitled 1st GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ “4x4 WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT WEEKEND"| ® the event will be held at Towcester Racecourse, Northamptonshire 8th - 9th April 2006.

Under this umbrella title we will attempt to set 20 or more world records spanning the following vehicles:-

BMW X3 & X5, DAIHATSU: Fourtrak, Terios, Sportrak, etc., CHEVROLET/DAEWOO: Chevrolet + Korando, Musso, etc., FORD: Maverick, Explorer, Bronco, Ranger, etc., HONDA: HR-V, CR-V, etc., HYUNDAI: Santa Fe, Terracan, Tucson, etc., ISUZU: Trooper, Rodeo pick-ups, etc., JEEP: Willys, Wrangler, Cherokee, CJ/YJ, etc., KIA: Sportage, Sorento, etc., LADA: Niva, LAND ROVER: Series I/II/III, Defender, Discovery, Range Rover, Freelander, etc. (as we have already established a record in this category, an attempt will be made to break our own world record), MAZDA: Tribute, B-Series pick-ups, etc., MERCEDES-BENZ: G-Wagen, M-Class, etc., MITSUBISHI: Shogun, Pajero, L200, Pajero, Delica, Pinin, etc., NISSAN: Patrol, Terrano, Navara, X-Trail, Challenger, Murano, Pathfinder, etc., SANTANA: PS-10, Anibal, etc., SSANGYONG (see Daewoo): Rexton, etc., SUBARU: Forester, Legacy, etc., SUZUKI: Vitara, LJ/SJ, Jimny, Samurai, Santana, X-90, etc., TOYOTA: Hi-Lux, Land Cruiser, Rav 4, Surf, Amazon, etc., VAUXHALL/OPEL: Frontera, Montery, etc.

Therefore, every world record will read ... GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ “Longest Mitsubishi Procession"| or whatever the equivalent marque happens to be.

All other makes of 4x4 are welcome [i.e. Auverland, Pinzgauer, UMM, etc.] only please be aware that less popular marques (in terms of numbers sold in the UK) may struggle to achieve a record. It is hoped however that if Guinness World Records ™ agree, and there is no good reason they shouldn't, all owners can join in the fun by setting an additional record for the “Longest 4x4 Procession"| featuring every 4x4 entered on the day. Now that would be a memorable sight!

POINTS TO REMEMBER:
These world record attempts cover 4x4's only, SUV's if you like, not cars with four-wheel-drive systems [4x4 cars will be catered for at a later date]. All 4x4's are therefore eligible providing:-

a) the vehicle has a minimum ground clearance of 183 mm (7.2"|) - [this alone rules out four-wheel-drive cars].
b) vehicle gross weight does not exceed 3,850 kg.
c) only road legal vehicles are permissible, so CHECK YOUR TAX DISCS!
d) while generally 4x4 vehicles are standard fare, 6x6 derivatives are permitted i.e. Land Rover 6x6, Pinzgauer 6x6, etc.
e) every participant is obliged to fly a national flag [no specified size] signifying the driver's country of origin.
f) vehicles must be capable of travelling under their own power, so unfortunately any vehicle that drops out of the convoy at the time of adjudication will be excluded.
g) no drawn trailers of any kind are permitted, the exception being 5th wheel vehicles.
h) if entering under the title of a particular marque, all vehicles must retain their original silhouette as they left the factory - basically your vehicle must still look like a Suzuki or a Land Rover even after extensive body modifications. Under the skin, regardless of engine type or mechanical modifications, providing the vehicle has an identification VIN plate to prove its origins it will be eligible to enter in the category of a single vehicle marque.
i) there will also be a special category for non-descript buggies/hybrids/conversions; in other words those not readily recognisable as any one particular marque. Providing the vehicle is road legal, again it will be eligible.

If unsure about any of these rules, ask beforehand as the decision of the Clerk of the Course is final.

Most importantly, please book A.S.A.P. for guaranteed acceptance. Entry from £15 per vehicle (in advance) for driver & up to 4 passengers, £20 on the day. For further info about entry/camping log on to www.vehiclerecordattempts.com or phone 01406 493144 / 07958 216266. END

the point i was trying to make was that they list about every other 4x4, except the Syncro.....

Yes, we are (being left out)

.. and I don't think we mind too much, others may differ in opinion.

Id rather varnish my "Balls", to be perfectly honest!

I think theyre going for the more conventional 4x4s. Syncro's can hardly be called conventional. As they said, they want the SUV type ones. They dont take kindly to our types around there! :D

That's pretty well how I read it too... but Steve has got a point - is this an error of omission, ignorance, or ?

not cars with four-wheel-drive systems [4x4 cars will be catered for at a later date]

I wouldnt worry about it. Dont forget, the Syncro is not one of the most widely available 4x4s ever. I can see your point though. Its a bit silly that we werent included but the bloody subaru legacy was!

People, its quite simple .... we are special !

Probably a case of the guy who wrote the copy being as ignorant about syncros as the majority of rest of the '4x4' world appear to be.

We will all do our bit to change that over the coming years I'm sure, but fact is we arent on the map, yet!

It would be almost worth turning up just to hear the debate of whether you 'qualify' or not !
