Depends on what you paid for the first s/h head. (cheap as chips)

. and to take into account what the 2nd s/h is going to cost you????
To buy new as you say, but I will tell you now it will not be new, it will be a re-conditioned head you will be buying £350. or not far short. when buying s/h you should be knowing what to look for, (1) cracks inbetween the valve seats. (2) any marks or abrasions on the camshaft lobes.Blueing (3) any uneven valve shims,(4) head warped ( can only be really checked with a dial gauge, or possibly with edge of steel rule) as I think the JX head is not hydraulic tappets, allthough I have taken heads off 1.6d. and found it has had a hydraulic head on, and it still worked. I was told once by a guy whom I bought a 1.6d head to go onto a 1.6td engine the heads were interchangable, and he was the owner of a parts shop in Walton Liverpool that went under the name of Merseyswede who sold his shop + business to now which is GSF. other engine converters on this forum has told me they have even fitted 1.6D heads onto 1.9 diesels and still worked. (Not tried this myself yet ) but certainly would like to know if it did work.
I have just taken a head off a CS 1.6D which was a re-manufactured head as there is no number on it. just a logo and it is very good you can have it for a £100.
