Hi

Gonna just put a new tail pipe on and see if it cures my issues with the popping sound when engine braking. But the bolts are rusted completly. I have WD40ed them over a couple of days but no chance.

So I need to grind them off but the flange? or what ever it is, is well rusty as well so im gonna need to wack it a very lot to get it all off and clean up the surface ready for a new gasket and tail pipe. But I dont know where the tail pipe ends and the silencer begins and I dont want to be wacking in the wrong place and damage the silencer. I have attached an image with an A or B marked on it and would be very gratful if someone could tell me where to wack after I have ground the bolts off.

Cheers

A is pointing to the gasket between the tail pipe and the exhaust flange (snigger)

Try grinding the bolt heads off and then winding the bolt stubs out with heat and a good pair of mole grips , failing that its either drill them out (try a reverse drill bit) and then retapping

or welding the new tail pipe in place

or a new exhaust pipe

So i need to grind em off then and then wack it to break the leftover part of the tail pipe off and the try to get the studs out? Right, thats leaving the FLANGE behind :rofl

Wont heat make the studs expand, which would make more difficult to get out

Cheers

yes , as you grind the bolt heads off chances are the tail pipe bit will fall away , LEAVING YOU FLANGE INTACT (snigger)
