Large air hose to right of air intake unit???

Hi

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what the pipe is called that fits to the right hand side of the air intake/vaccum unit - large S shaped pipe that Im guessing suck air in from the side of the van etc??

Better still if anyone has a link to somewhere that I can buy one that would be sound as ours is split and held together with Duck Tape!

Forgive me if I haven't used the correctly terminology.

Cheers

Mat

Pre heat pipe ? should be connected to one of the exhaust down pipes provided the tin plate is still attached to the exhaust,,,,,,,,quite often this plate has rusted off so the pre heat pipe is then removed as it has nothing to stop it flopping about.

Regards

Fritz,,,,,,,,,,,,

PS, also pipe is /should be heat proof if you are thinking of replacing it.....and it comes in many diameters.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Hmmmm, not sure we are talking about the same pipe (my description was a bit sh*te!), I'll try and describe it some more...

This pipe (currently) lies flat, if you like on the "top" of the engine, in the back right hand side of the engine - meeting the air intake/vacuum jobby. As you look at it, it bends off in a reverse S - more like a Z shape from the intake/vacuum housing - Its about 60-80mm in diamater and looks like its made of black plastic type material and bends off to the right hand corner which is pretty much directly underneath the right hand rear vent/grill.

By the way its a 1982 Air Cooled 2l.

If anyone has a pic of the top of the engine I will mark on it what I mean (not got the van with me so can't take a pic right now)!! :ok

Thanks.

It's just for fresh cool air to be supplied from the side of the engine compartment under the intake grill. Not that important, some people leave them off with no ill effect so I understand. Most are split along the corrugations, mine certainly was. You might get a better one from a breakers but otherwise keep taping it up! The pic in the wiki shows it as missing - it's my old van! That JK part is an oil breather hose so not the same one...

Wish I had found this before!!! I did look... https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... h+cool+air

So what is the general opinion: A: should I take it off - or B: should I replace/repair

Obviously I want whats best for my DUB, so opinions from the experts would be very much appreciated! :D

I hope that you find a replacement air-intake hose, shortbloke. :)

When asking for help about the engine on you van the first thing you should tell the helpful peeps on 80-90 is what engine it is ie. petrol or diesel, if petrol - air or water cooled, what year it is & size in CCs. :)
