electic probs & carb

i had some problems with my van electrics basicaly something was draining my battery and we narrowed it down to the alternator ??? it still charges the battry fine but then drains it again wen switched off, if i put isolator switch on my live would it stop it happening ???
also i found a fuel leak on my carb (gasket gone)can i just change the one that leaks? or is it a strip n rebuild the whole thing ??? cheers guys

yes it would but I would determine if the battery is at fault or if you have a grounded circuit

You can do what you are suggesting BUT it isn't really going to sort your problem is it ?
Try placing a test lamp between the battery and the (disconnected) + lead which if it is being drained should lite up. Simply find the circuit that is causing the drain by either pulling the fuses OR disconnecting things such as extra 12V outlets such as cig lighter bases/radios or any interior lighting which may have been fitted.
As far as the carb is concerned, try to fit the correct gasket from one of many carburettor re-furb companies you can find on the net, even E-bay.
