Not Starting Woes / Help

Hi. This is probably my own fault and I'm hoping you guys can clarify what I suspect. My 1.9 Petrol van has been a very healthy starter/runner, other than a bit of unsureness when it changes over from cold air/hot air and the autochoke adjusts after starting.
I came back after a long run with a very empty tank and parked the van on a slope, leaning to the left. Came back to it a few days later and it started initially, then immediately stopped.
I'm guessing there wasn't enough fuel to start it or the fuel pickup was not submersed properly, I put some fuel in and tried again but no luck. Have pushed the van to somewhere flat now and put a bit more fuel in, approx 12L.
I reckon I flattened the battery a bit trying to start it.
Have charged the battery, engine turns over, still won't start. I guess it takes a while to pull the fuel through from the tank and certainly the fuel filter is a bit grubbier than previously but I would have thought It'd manage to fire after a while.
Turns over OK, just not starting. Ignition connections seem OK. Any ideas?
Michael
