Hi, on a lovely warm day i'm trying to replace both heater control cables (dashboard to heat exchangers) on our 1981 1600CT Westy (LHD). I've done this before on a Bay no problem but these have me stumped. I've deptached the cables from the heater control panal on the dash and from the heat exchangers but how do you get the cables out of the outer plastic tube they have been sat in for a few decades?? I've tried WD40, patience and pulling (a lot) but all I manage to do is stretch the outer cable. Is there something I'm missing or do I have to try and remove all that damm tubing?
Haynes is as helpful as ever by not even mentioning heater cable replacement!
Thanks, D.

Hi D, I have just had exactly the same problem. I had to completely remove the tubes which was not difficult but a real pain. I then found that the control cable could be removed fairly easily by fixing one end of the tub and pulling it straight.
