HELP
I am in a real panic
Having been told that I need an exhaust system with a catalytic converter in as well as having the lambda sensor fitted
The garage who I was going to get to do the work are proving to be worse than useless and dont even seem to be bothered that they cant get one
Where can I get one and before someone suggests the brickyard let me tell you what Simon said!!!!!!!
The system fits, you need the slightly more expensive one with a lambda sensor boss welded in.
If you buy the full system it will do away with the cat and free up a little bit of power.
Simon.
Can this be right, what about the onboard 'computer' (black box) doesn't that need a cat converter to talk to for the emissions?
I am way out of my depth here

My 1.9dg had a cat until I replaced the whole system last year with a stainless one. I noticed the difference in power immediately. The cat certainly must restrict the flow of exhaust gasses and drop at least a horse or two in power.

The the lambda sensor certainly does send information to the ECU and the ECU in turn uses that and other information from other sensors to adjust timing and fuel for optimum performance/fuel efficiency. However....the Lambda sensor is positioned before the CAT in the exhaust system and that is one of the reasons the ECU is uneffected by it's removal (the oxygen content is read before it goes through the CAT) The fact is all pre-91 vehicles (I'm not sure of the exact date) don't legally require the fitment of a CAT and as early CATS restrict gas flow, you will get better fuel consumption and power after it's removal.

date for cat tests is 1993, if it has one fitted prior to that i think it's to be working but it has lower limits, basically K reg's, some were '92 and didn't need full cat test, but '93 models did so no German or Austrian T3's need a cat test for the MOT, so just take it off and have done with it.
